How it works
How to Count Colonies with FigPad
2 · Count
Sign in and select Start counting. AI detects colonies and marks their positions. Each successful count costs 1 credit; failures are free. Counting usually takes 30–60 seconds, or longer for complex photos.
3 · Review
Zoom and pan to review each marker. Use Add for missed colonies and Remove for false detections. Undo and redo your edits as needed; the total updates as you make corrections.
4 · Export
Once you have checked the markers and total, export a PNG of your annotated plate and count. Manual corrections and exports are free. Upload another photo when you are ready to continue.
Colony Counter FAQ
What images can I upload?
Upload a JPG, PNG or WebP plate photo up to 12 MB. Colonies should be clearly visible. For best results, photograph the entire dish from above with even lighting and avoid blur, strong reflections and obstructions.
Do I need an account, and how do credits work?
Sign in to run AI counting on your own photos. Each successful count costs 1 credit; failed counts are free. Running another successful AI count costs another credit. Manual marker corrections and exports do not use credits.
Can I try it for free?
Yes. Select Try an example in the upload area to load a sample photo with prepared results, without signing in. You can edit, reset and export the example for free. Loading the example does not call AI again or use credits.
Is the AI count always accurate?
AI results need manual review. Blur, reflections, dense colonies and touching colonies can cause missed or false detections. Zoom in to check the markers and correct them before using or exporting the result.
How do I add or remove a marker?
Select Add and click the center of a missed colony, or select Remove and click an unwanted marker. The total updates immediately. Use Undo and Redo to recover from accidental changes.
What format can I export?
Export a PNG containing the plate photo, current colony markers and count. The export uses your manually corrected result, so review the markers before downloading.
